| Training in Gynaecology Oncology from Nigeria - July 2004-2005 | Dr. Ajenifuja will start a one-year training in Surgical Gyneacology oncology and Preventive Oncology on July 1, 2004 under the supervision of Dr. Tongaonkar. This training, when completed, will assit in the establishment/expansion of programmes relating to detection and treatment of cervical cancer and to train more junior health workers.

| Clinical Trials Workshop in Brazil - 1-3 Sept. 2004 | A workshop entitled "The Value and Conduct of Clinical Trials in Cancer in Latin America" took place in Sao Paulo, Brazil from 1-3 September. Some 150 oncologists, pharmacists, data managers and nurses participated. A multidisciplinary meeting involving social workers, psychologists and advocates was held simultaneously. Both meetings were well received. More information is available on INCTR Brasil. |
| Annual Meeting 2004, Cairo, 2-5 Oct. | The Annual Meeting took place in Cairo from 2-5 Oct. It included a range of elements - award lectures, keynote lectures, reports, educational presentations, training sessions, a consensus panel discussion on the relative importance of bone marrow transplantation in developing countries, a multidisciplinary conference, and a session on developments in information technology of relevance to low resource countries. The meeting was well attended (over 300 participants from over 40 countries) and feedback was excellent. More information will be provided in the near future on the portal and in the newsletter. |

Oncology training organized in Burkina Faso by the Health Ministry of Burkina Faso and by AMCC with the collaboration of CRLC and UICC (French-speaking Committee). Main topics are Chemotherapy, Palliative Care and Prevention.

This report is shortly to be published in the journal "Blood Cells, Molecules and Diseases." The workshop was supported by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. |
| INCTR Presentation at ESMO Annual Meeting | INCTR participated in a session on cancer in developing countries held at the European Society of Clinical Oncology's Annual Meeting in Vienna. The presentation is available under "Documents/PowerPoint presentations." It is a large file, so may take some time to load. |
| Data Management Training Course, Nov 2004 | A data management training course for data manageres of the Leukemia Study Group of India will take place in the week beginning 15th November. |
| Training for medical and nursing staff at Shaukat Khanum, Pakistan |
1) 10 nurses from Shaukat Khanum will go to the military hospital in Rawalpindi in the first instance.
2) In January 2005, 2 senior nurses from Bart's, namely: Elaine Stewart, who used to be the Ward Sister for the Transplant Unit and has now taken on a 'Clinical Nurse Specialist' role for patients with acute leukaemia, and Claire Murrell, Head of Nursing for Cancer Services (used to be the Transplant Coordinator for our Department) will spend a week at Shaukat Khanum, giving seminars and working alongside your nurses.
3) In March, Ama Rohatiner will stay for 3 days in Lahore to give advice to Medical and Nursing Staff.

| Dr. Santos' visit to Santa Cruz Bolivia - Cervical Cancer Prevention Programme | Dr. Santos (Lima, Peru) is going to Santa Cruz, Bolivia to meet with Dr. Claros, Chief of the Cervix Cancer Control Programme on January 22 & 23, 2005. The purpose of the visit is to assess needs and discuss screening techniques. |
| Lymphoma workshop and Cancer Nurses' Meeting in Izmir, Turkey - April 2005 | INCTR (UK) in collaboration with the The Dokuz Eylul University Institute of Oncology will run a Lymphoma Workshop concurrently with a Nurses' Meeting in Çesme, near Izmir, Turkey, 11 - 13 April. The event will take place with the help of the Middle East Cancer Consortium (MECC) and, as a result, the audience will comprise Haematologists, Medical Oncologists-in-training and Nurses not only from Turkey, but also from Israel, Egypt, 'Palestine', Jordan and Cyprus. This broad mix will generate interesting discussions about differing approaches to the problems surrounding the care and treatment of cancer.
In October 2003 a similar 3-day event was held in Cairo and proved a great success.

| Intercountry meeting on the adoption of the regional cancer control strategy and developing national work plans | The meeting will be held at the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean, Cairo, Egypt on 15–18 December 2008.
This meeting will be jointly organized by the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Network for Cancer Treatment and Research (INCTR) and the Lalla Salma Association Against Cancer. The meeting will also include a workshop on breast cancer control.
